Guj firm gets Parliament House makeover work

The government today announced awarding of the contract to develop the Centra Vista area and design new buildings to improve the Common Secretariat Building, improving old buildings on Raisina Hills and Parliament House between November 2021 and March 2024.
The consultancy work was awarded to HCP Design, Planning & Management Pvt Ltd, a leading architect firm that designed various buildings and spaces like Central Vista and State Secretariat in Gandhinagar; Sabarmati River Front Development, Ahmedabad; Mumbai Port Complex; New Campus, IIM Ahmedabad; and CII-SN Centre of Excellence Kolkata, etc., an official release said.
The government has set up stringent timelines for the Central Public Works Department to complete the Central Vista project by November 2021, the work on Parliament building by March 2022 and the common Central Secretariat by March 2024.
The aim is to improve the old buildings on Raisina Hills, make improved Common Secretariat Buildings, refurbish old Parliament building and upgrade the entire Central Vista area by revisiting entire master plan for which a world-class consultant was needed.
The buildings on Raisina Hills were constructed in the period from 1911 to 1931, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyen and Sir Herbert Baker. At that time, these were also designed to have office for Viceroy and Secretariat. The Parliament building was constructed in the same period. Various buildings along Rajpath have been constructed at different stages for accommodating offices of various Central ministries and departments. The Central Vista starting from Rashtrapati Bhawan up to India Gate is the heart of city, which has been point of attraction for visitors from all over the world, the release said.
Over a period of above 100 years after the conceptualisation of building on Raisina Hill and adjoining to Rajpath, the requirement has now increased manifold… there is an imperative need to improve the beauty of Central Vista to make it a world-class tourist attraction point, the release added.
Deadline for CPWD
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced timelines given to Central Public Works Department (CPWD) to complete the project.
