Islamabad: Pakistan’s Supreme Court on Thursday ordered PM Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khanum to pay a hefty Rs 29.4 million in taxes and fine within a week in the foreign assets case. A three-judge Bench, while hearing a case against 44 politically exposed individuals who possess properties in the UAE, remarked that failure on Khanum’s part to honour the court orders will result in confiscation of her properties. — Agencies

Regret not acting on report on Kashmir: Chidambaram

New Delhi: Former Union Minister P Chidambaram on Thursday said he “deeply regrets” not acting on the report submitted by three interlocutors on Kashmir following a massive unrest in the Valley in 2010 and asserted that talks are the “only way forward” to resolve Kashmir’s problems. MM Ansari, Radha Kumar and Dileep Padgaonkar submitted a report in 2011 when Chidambaram was the Home Minister. PTI

Apex court: Rights of elderly must be recognised

New Delhi: Statutory rights of over 10 crore elderly persons in India must be recognised and implemented, the Supreme Court said on Thursday, directing the Centre to obtain information from all states and UTs about the number of old age homes in each district. It also suggested a relook at the pension for the elderly. TNS
