Mafia don-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad, lodged in Deoria jail, filed his nomination as an independent candidate from Phulpur Lok Sabha constituency on Tuesday, the last day for filing nominations.
The nomination was filed by his wife and lawyer on his behalf. In the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, Ahmad had won from the Phulpur seat on a Samajwadi Party ticket.

In Phulpur, 18 nominations were filed today taking the total number of candidates to 30. This included Manish Mishra from Congress. — TNS
