SINGAPORE: An Indian-origin leading intellectual property lawyer has been appointed a judicial commissioner of Singapore’s Supreme Court. Dedar Singh Gill, 59, has been appointed for two years. He will be sworn in on August 3. Gill was previously managing director of intellectual property department of the law firm Drew and Napier LLC. With Gill’s appointment, the SC will now have a total of 21 judges. PTI

Block ads 48 hrs before polling, EC asks FB 

New Delhi: The Election Commission has asked Facebook to examine blocking of political advertisement during last 48-hour before elections in the country, a request the social media giant hasn't responded to as yet, but is examining. At a June 4 meeting of the committee constituted by the poll panel to study provisions of the Representation of the People Act, a Facebook representative agreed to “examine providing a window or button on the Facebook page for flagging complaints about violation of election laws”. Penguin India acquires Hind Pocket Books

New Delhi: Penguin Random House India on Thursday announced its acquisition of Hind Pocket Books, one of the oldest Hindi language publishers in the country. Vaishali Mathur, previously responsible for Indian language publishing and rights at Penguin Random House India will be Editor-in-Chief of Hind Pocket Books. PTI

Army Chief releases book on Indo-Pak wars

New Delhi: Army Chief General Bipin Rawat on Thursday released a book “Indo-Pak wars: Battles that made history”, authored by a serving officer, Major General Harvijay Singh. The book talks of the 1948, 1965 and 1971 wars.  Three generations of Maj Gen Harvijay Singh’s family were present at the book launch. His father Col JS Kandah (Retd) was from the Corps of Signals. His sons— Capt Abhaijeet Singh and Major Jagatjeet Singh —  were also present. TNS
