Chennai: In reverence and devotion to the late AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa, a party leader held his son's wedding ceremony at the premises of her samadhi on the Marina beach here on Wednesday. The final resting place of Jayalalithaa was decked up for the occasion with a colourful array of flowers and garlands as SP Sambasivaraman alias Satish tied the knot in a traditional ceremony. The couple sat in front of the samadhi for the ceremony, accompanied by friends and relatives. PTI

Goyal trolled for Newton-Einstein gaffe

New Delhi: Union Minister Piyush Goyal was on Thursday trolled over an apparent gaffe in explaining that achieving the target $5-trillion economy should not be looked through the prism of maths. At the meeting of the Board of Trade, he remarked that maths did not help Albert Einstein to discover gravity. The slip up was not lost on the netizens who quickly took to Twitter to point out that gravity was discovered by Isaac Newton. Former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh said, “With such ministers, only God can fix the economy.” tns

Woman on the phone sits on snakes, bitten

Gorakhpur: In a bizarre incident, a woman while talking on the phone sat down on a pair of snakes, got bitten and died minutes later in Riyanv village of Gorakhpur. Gita, wife of Jai Singh Yadav, who works in Thailand, was talking to her husband on the phone. A pair of snakes had entered the house and playing on the bed. Gita walked into the room and without seeing the snakes, sat down on the bed. Bitten, she was rushed her to a nearby hospital where she died. When the family members returned, they saw snakes were still playing on the bed. They beat snakes to death. IANS
