Former minister and senior Congress leader from UP Jitin Prasad gave jitters to his party today when the news spread that he was planning a cross over to the BJP and had met some saffron rankers. Prasad, a former Minister of State in the UPA government, was recently declared a Congress candidate from Dhaurahra, a segment he represented in the 15th Lok Sabha.

After day-long speculation that he was upset with his party for a variety of reasons and would switch sides today, Prasad eventually laid all speculations to rest in evening by saying, “Why should I answer an hypothetical question?”

Through the day he avoided phone calls. The level of anticipation around his exit was so high that the Congress had to officially dismiss the issue. “I have known Jitin Prasada personally. Reports of his switching over are bullshit,” Congress spokesman Randeep Surjewala said. — TNS
