Guwahati, February 8
A multi-crore scam has been unearthed in the implementation of the Employment Generation Mission (EGM) undertaken during the Tarun Gogoi-headed previous Congress regime in Assam.
The BJP-led government in the state has ordered an inquiry, while the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption bureaus of the state police were also investigating it. Irregularities were detected during an audit of accounts by the Accountant General (Audit) from October 11, 2010, to November 10, 2010. The report was submitted to the secretary of the Labour and Employment department of the state government early last year.
A copy of the audit report said fictitious utilisation certificates for Rs 1.96 crore were submitted under the EGM. Gogoi said, “Let them inquire. If they find any wrongdoing, I am ready to go to jail.”
