Prime Minister Narendra Modi spent his birthday with children from a government primary school at Narur in rural Varanasi where he was greeted with handmade cards and songs in Bhojpuri praying for his long life.
If first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru was popular among children as Chacha Nehru, the children at the Narur school addressed PM Modi as ‘Kaka Modi’ (uncle Modi) who spoke to them about the importance of education, cleanliness and fitness.
The Prime Minister also gave small gifts to the children. The school is aided by a non-profit organisation called ‘Room to Read’.
A student requested the Prime Minister to visit her village saying she had been waiting for him to come. PM Modi excused himself explaining details of his busy schedule.
PM also Modi met about 200 ASHA volunteers and anganwadi workers and a group of children who survive on rag-picking. Among the rag-picking children were a group of differently abled or ‘divyang’ children. The PM watched the short film based on his life, Chalo Jeete Hain, in their company.
