New Delhi, March 3
JNU Students Union president Kanhaiya Kumar, who was released from Tihar Jail after furnishing a bail bond on Thursday amid celebrations by his supporters, arrived on the university campus only to deliver a fiery speech to a large excited audience of students in the night, taking jibes at the Prime Minister among many others.
Kanhaiya Kumar’s arrest on charges of sedition three weeks back had triggered a massive outcry. After his release today he was escorted to the jail gate and handed over to some teachers and other persons present there.
Some of his statements in the speech:
- The ABVP on our campus is more rational as compared to the ABVP outside the campus.
- No ill feelings towards anyone. I won’t indulge in witch-hunting.
- There is no animosity towards the ABVP because we are democratic. We see them as our opposition.
- PM tweeted and said ‘Satyamev jayate’. I want to convey this to him that I also say the same thing.
- We Indians forget easily but we still remember all the ‘jumla’ used during election campaign.
- If you speak against the govt then their cyber cell will send your doctored videos and count the number of condoms in your dustbin.
- A BJP MP in Parliament said that ‘jawans’ are dying on the border, but what about all the farmers who commit suicide. They are sons and brothers of the same people.
- We are not asking for freedom from India, but asking for freedom within India.
- Want freedom from ‘Sanghis’.
- Not easy to get into JNU, but not easy to forget people of JNU either.
- Have full faith in Constitution, judiciary.
- On azadi naara, we want azadi not from India but from those who loot India.
- Fight initiated by Rohith Vemula, all of you and peace-loving people in country, will be pursued by us & we'll win this battle.
- PM mentioned Stalin, should have mentioned Hitler also.
- Today you (students)are here because you think you have been attacked. But this attack was made some time ago by Swamy.
- "Kuch ko to aapne 'Har Har' keh ke jhak lia, aaj kal arhar se pareshaan hain".
- Attack on JNU is a planned one as they want to delegitimize UGC protest, and to dilute the fight for justice for Rohith Vemula.
- "Iss desh mein jan-virodhi sarkar hai. Uss sarkar ke khilaaf bolenge to inka cyber cell doctored video dikhayega".
Kanhaiya Kumar was granted interim bail for six months by the Delhi High Court on Wednesday on the condition that he will cooperate in the ongoing investigation and has to present himself before the police as and when required.

"Kanhaiya was released from the jail around 6.30 pm after his bail bond and release orders were properly scrutinised," Additional IG (Prisons) and Tihar Spokesperson Mukesh Prasad said.

The student leader was greeted with loud cheers by his supporters when he came out of Tihar Jail. Celebrations also erupted on the JNU campus.
Earlier in the day, a city court issued Kanhaiya's release order after he furnished a bail bond.Sources said he furnished a personal bond of Rs 10,000 and one surety of the like amount as directed by the high court on Wednesday. A faculty member of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Professor S N Malakar, stood surety for him.
Jail officials said the papers for the release of the JNU student leader were received at around 5 pm. Some JNU teachers were waiting for him at the gate of the jail when he was released about one-and-a-half-hours later.
Earlier in the day, police mounted heavy security outside the Jawaharlal Nehru University gates where a group was spotted protesting against Kumar.
Apprehending "clashes" following Kumar's release, the police issued an 'advisory' to all district, traffic and PCR units asking them to maintain a strict vigil, especially in and around the JNU and Delhi University campuses.
"The advisory says that in case Kumar gets bail, there is a possibility that he may visit places like Jantar Mantar, JNU and DU with a large number of his supporters, including students' groups like the AISF and AISA and members of some political parties," a police source said.
