Jaipur, January 13
Bharatiya Janata Party elected Gulab Chand Kataria as leader of its legislative party on Sunday.
Former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje proposed his name at a meeting held at the BJP’s party headquarters in the city. RS Rathore seconded her proposal.
Kataria will also be Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, while Rathore will be deputy leader.
BJP has 73 MLAs in the House. Congress has 99 MLAs, plus one member of the RLD.
BJP leadership recently moved Raje to the party’s national group, along with two other former chief ministers—MP’s Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Chhattisgarh's Raman Singh.
Rajasthan Assembly Session will begin here on January 15.
Kataria, who is also protem speaker, will be sworn in by Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh on Monday. He was Leader of Opposition during Congress Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's first term from 2002-03.
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who was to attend the meeting, cancelled his visit to the city.
