Faridkot, May 28

Two days after the killing of a 24-year-old youth of Mutksar in a police encounter in Faridkot district and the police registering an attempt to murder case against some close aides of the deceased, the police are now trying to keep the FIR a secret.

Reportedly on “weak wicket” for killing a person who has no criminal record, the police are now “trying to mollify the family members of the deceased”.

Unlike all other FIRs, the Faridkot police have not uploaded this FIR online so far. There is no mention of this FIR even in its daily crime report of the past two days.

These were all peacemaking efforts with the family of the deceased, said sources.

The Faridkot police have already released all four youths who were nabbed by the Bathinda police on May 26 from the Bathinda civil hospital and were reportedly handed over to the Faridkot police.

After a clash with the Faridkot police near Dabri Khana village, these youths had taken injured Ajmer Singh Jimmy to the Civil Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

Two of the four youths are facing several criminal cases at different police stations in the Malwa region.

Besides releasing these youths, the “mellowed” police have even promised Jimmy’s family of starting the process for cancellation of case registered against Ranjit Singh, alias Rana, and some close aides of Jimmy.

Jaitu DSP Jagdish Bishnoi, investigating officer in the case, denied that the police made any compromise in the case.

Denying release of any arrested accused in this case, he claimed there was no arrest in the case so far.

However, Bathinda SSP Swapan Sharma admitted that the Bathinda police rounded up some associates of Jimmy on May 26 and handed them over to the Faridkot police. About the official arrest of these youths, the Faridkot police would know better, the Bathinda SSP added.

Another difficulty that the police are facing is that they were using the vehicle of a wine contractor at the time of encounter.

Jaitu SDM Narinder Singh Dhaliwal, who is heading the magisterial inquiry in this case, said the postmortem of Ajmer Singh was conducted in his presence. He said the further investigation was underway.
