Lightweight revolver for women unveiled in Kanpur
Kanpur, March 20
A lightweight revolver 'Nirbheek', designed exclusively for women, was unveiled in Kanpur.
Designed primarily for women’s safety, the brutal gangrape of a 23-year-old woman in Delhi in 2012 led to the invention.
The 0.32 bore revolver weighs only 525gm as opposed to a normal revolver that weights 700gm. Made of titanium alloy, the gun has a bullet range of 10-15 meters and is priced at Rs 1.22 lakh.
The launch event had many women in attendance. The revolver, already launched in some northern states, is mostly popular in Delhi and Punjab and is slowly gaining popularity in Jammu and Kashmir, where orders for nearly 100 revolvers have reportedly been placed. ANI
