Mumbai, August 17
Maharashtra will soon make it mandatory for all land records to be linked with the Aadhaar number of their owners.
As per a decision taken by the state government, farmland will be the first to be linked to Aadhaar. Already, the government has asked farmers applying for the Rs 34,000 farm loan waiver to provide details of their land and their Aadhaar card numbers.
“We will link the 7/12 extracts (as land records are known in Maharashtra) to the Aadhaar card of the owner so that compensation in case of land acquisition is provided quickly to the beneficiary. Linking Aadhaar card to land records will also help the government disburse drought relief expeditiously,” an official from the revenue department said.
Sources said linking Aadhaar details with property will also help in eradicating benami ownership. — TNS
