Maharashtra to develop 10 Smart Cities on its own

Mumbai, June 24

Maharashtra has decided to develop 10 Smart Cities independently, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said at an event in Kalyan today. “We will develop 10 Smart Cities which will cater to all segments of society. The state government will provide funds for credible, efficient, transparent and inclusive planning,” he said.

As a pilot project, the state government has selected the Kalyan-Dombivali twin cities where a pilot project on e-governance will be implemented in association with Oracle. The firm would bring in technology that was in use in Los Angeles, he said.

As per a government resolution, Mumbai and Navi Mumbai would be developed as Smart Cities using their own funds without any assistance from the state. Funds to develop Nashik, Aurangabad, Nagpur and Amravati would be provided by the City and Industrial Development Corporation, while the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority would fund the project at Thane and Kalyan-Dombivli. — TNS
