Maj Gen sacked from Army for sexual misconduct

A Major General-rank officer of the Indian Army, who was posted on deputation to the Assam Rifles has been sacked from the Indian Army due to a sexual harassment case following approval from Army Chief General Bipin Rawat.

General Bipin Rawat confirmed the sentence awarded to the Maj General that too without pension for a two-year-old sexual harassment case.

A General Court Martial (GCM) had recommended the dismissal on December 23.

This was intimated through the Ambala-based 2 Corps Commander Lt Gen MJS Kahlon on Friday.

The Maj Gen was attached to Western Command for disciplinary proceedings. The officer, during the GCM, denied charges levelled by a Captain-rank woman officer.

The Major General was posted in the northeast when the alleged incident took place in 2016. The officer will have the option of approaching the Armed Forces Tribunal.

The GCM recommended his dismissal from service after he was charged under Section 354A of the IPC and Army Act 45 which is related to unbecoming conduct of officers in the force.
