Independent MLA from Gujarat and Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani said here on Thursday he will continue his campaign against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP, including in the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections.
“I am not deterred by the Karnataka Police filing an FIR against me for giving a call to disrupt Modi’s public meetings for not fulfilling his promise to provide jobs to youths,” Mevani said.
Mevani had given the “questionable” call at a public meeting in Karnataka during his election tour in the state.
The Dalit leader had shot into limelight on account of his campaign against the Gujarat Government, a few months before the Assembly elections in the state against atrocities on Dalits by cow vigilantes.
Although it was not officially declared he was subsequently supported by the Congress in the state.
Mevani, who is presently in the national capital, said he will organise two conferences, on March 26 and 27, in Karnataka to highlight the failures of the Modi government in fulfilling the promises of jobs to youths, and on Dalit rights issues. He declined to divulge the venues.
“I will support any candidate and party which will defeat nominees of the BJP in Karnataka. I will do the same in the other states, especially Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh where Assembly elections are due this year,” he added.
Outlining his game plan against the BJP with electoral contest for Assembly elections in the states and in 2019 General Elections, he said he will mobilise Dalits and Muslim minorities on a common platform.
