MiG-27 aircraft crashes in Jaisalmer, pilot ejects safely

A MiG-27 aircraft of the Indian Air Force airborne for a training mission from Jaisalmer crashed at around 6.10 pm near Pokhran Range on Tuesday. The pilot ejected safely.
The fighter aircraft crashed at Eta village in Pokhran tehsil of Jaisalmer district, a defence official said.
The pilot ejected safely, Defence spokesperson Col Sombit Ghosh said.
"A Court of Inquiry will investigate the cause of the accident," Ghosh said.
Jaisalmer SP Kiran Kang said no casualty has been reported so far, and a police team is in touch with Air Force officials.
She said a police team rushed to the spot.
SHO of Lathi Police Station, Bagh Singh said the fighter plane, which took off from Chandan Air Force Range crashed in the prohibited area of firing range near Khetolai, the site of country's first nuclear explosion. The police were not allowed to enter the area.
The pilot was rushed to the Jodhpur's Army hospital, he added. — OC/PTI
