The report said 92 per cent of the youth surveyed by NGO representatives in Delhi showed 'no willingness to intervene in elder abuse cases' in their surroundings or neighbourhood. “Delhi is followed by Chennai and Hyderabad with 64 per cent and 45 per cent figures, respectively,” the report said.

The report showed that the most admission to the existence of elder abuse was found in Delhi at 84.5 per cent, followed by Nagpur (83 per cent),

Mumbai (82 per cent) and Ahmedabad (80 per cent). “Overall, southern cities exhibited lower admission to elder abuse, the least being Bengaluru, at 56.5 per cent,” stated the report.

Nationally, nearly 60 per cent youth are willing to take direct action if they came across an  elder abuse case by talking to abusers and asking them to change their behaviour.

“Our NGO conducted the survey in 10 cities this year," said Bhavneshwar Sharma, state head of Helpage India.
