Udaipur, October 3
Open water swimmer Bhakti Sharma and her mother-coach Leena Sharma have entered the Limca Book of Records as the only mother-daughter to cross the English Channel.
"Crossing the English Channel has always been a dream for both of us which was supported by Bhakti' father Chandrashekhar Sharma fully. We all are very much happy with the arrival of the certificate," Leena Sharma said.
They had set the record on July 23, 2008.
Talking about their first attempt of crossing the English Channel from England to France on July 13, 2008, Leena Sharma said the wind and current forced to abandon their first attempt.
They tried again ten days later, on June 23, and clocked 18 hours.
Twenty-five-year old Bhakti Sharma is the youngest and the only Asian to swim in Atlantic, Pacific, Indian and Arctic oceans.
With successful swims in Arabian Sea, North Sea and Mediterranean Sea besides the four oceans, she has also completed the seven seas, a swimming milestone. — PTI
