Netaji’s relative to lead Hindu Mahasabha
Kolkata, August 9
Rajyashree Chaudhuri’s elevation as the president of the Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha has for the first time put a member of the family of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in a top position of a political party, however, marginal it may be.
A Hindu Mahasabha activist here said Rajyashree would be the second Bengali president of the outfit after the legendary Syama Prasad Mookerjee. Mookerjee was president of the Mahasabha from 1943 to 1946.
Rajyashree, 49, is related to Netaji through her great-grandmother Snehalata, Netaji’s sister. A programme will be held in Delhi on Friday where Rajyashree will formally take over the reins of the Hindu outfit. She said she would like India to transform into a “Hindu rashtra” and shun the western model of growth. “Only by following indigenous methods, people could be lifted out of poverty.” — TNS
