5 from Jaipur crack UPSC civil services exam

Securing the first rank in UPSC’s civil services examination, an IIT-Bombay graduate hailing from Jaipur, Kanishk Kataria, was among the five students who brought laurels to Pink City. 

Kanishak Kataria, 26, a Dalit from Jaipur, is a graduate in computer science from IIT-Bombay. Inspired by his father, a serving IAS officer in the state capital, Sanwarmal Sharma, Kanishak had left multi-national companies jobs in USA, South Korea and returned to fulfil his parents’ dream and serve the society.

“Thanks to our robust foreign policy, we all need to understand the power of collaborative efforts. If we Indians follow some basics, like not littering the roads or public places, half of the problems related to health will not exist. Channelising human and financial resources towards education is another milestone,” he said at his home in Chitrakoot locality.  

Akshat Jain, 23, an engineering student from IIT-Guwahati, got the all-India 2nd rank and has set a benchmark for students of his age by cracking the prestigious examination. Son of Rajasthan cadre’s senior IPS officer, who is presently with the CBI, DC Jain, Akshat knew that would become a civil servant like his parents. “I wanted to work in public sector, not in private sector”, he said.

Subham Gupta, 25, who secured 6th rank, is already an officer in the Indian Audit and Accounts Services (IA&AS). He finally cracked the exam in his fourth attempt. “I just kept on preparing for the prestigious examination,” Gupta, who did his PG in Economics from Delhi University, said. 

Khushboo Lather, 25, who secured 98th rank, has done MBA in Economics from Kohikode. She had worked with a Gurgaon-based bank. Daughter of Director-General of Police (law & order) M L Lather, Khushboo said she wanted to be more than a corporate employee and serve the public. Khushboo is already undergoing her training as an Indian Revenue Service officer at NAD, Nagpur, after securing 285th rank in 2018. 

Akshay Kabra, a law student from Jaipur, secured AIR 207th rank, while Udaipur’s Atirag Chaplot secured 15th and Dipesh Kedia of Jhunjhunu 36th. 

In 2013, Jaipur’s Gaurav Agarwal had topped the civil services examination.
