The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has announced a cash reward for any reliable information about two top leaders of Naga rebel group NSCN-K, including its chief SS Khaplang.
The agency has announced Rs 10 lakh reward for information leading to the arrest of Niki Sumi, a resident of Surumi police station, Nagaland, and Rs 7 lakh for information on Khaplang (Shangwang Shangyungi), a resident of Pangsau district of Myanmar.
Khaplang heads the NSCN (K), while Niki Sumi holds the charge of the armed wing of the group. An NIA communiqué said the two were closely associated with the decision to attack Assam Rifles personnel at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima, on March 26, 2015 and subsequent string of attacks on the armed forces, including the attack on 6 Dogra Regiment convoy in Chandel district of Manipur on June 4, 2015, that left 18 Army men dead.
“Any person from public, giving any reliable information about the whereabouts of these hardcore terrorists, leading to their arrest, will be rewarded with money. The identity of the informer will be kept secret,” the NIA announced.
There are reports that 75-year-old Khaplang was in a hospital and later shifted to Taga, a place which is at a junction of the India-Myanmar-China border. The anti-terror probe agency said the total number of militants who participated in the attack on the Army convoy was 23 out, of whom two were killed on June 4 in retaliatory action by the Army in Chandel district of Manipur, official sources said.
Army trucks were attacked with ‘Lathod guns’ and grenades by suspected terrorists of NSCN (Khaplang), killing 18 soldiers and injuring 15 others in the Manipur attack.
