NTR’s widow threatens legal action over biopic

With a string of movies being announced on the life and times of Telugu matinee idol and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister late NT Rama Rao, his widow Lakshmi Parvathi has threatened legal action if any of the proposed films attempted to portray the couple in poor light.

At least three biopic projects have been announced so far. NTR’s actor son N Balakrishna, who is also the brother-in-law of CM N Chandrababu Naidu, was the first to announce his plan to make a biopic. Another director K Jagadishwar Reddy also unveiled a similar movie project.

“I will not allow any movie to be made without my permission. For more than two decades, I have suffered insults and abuses. I will not allow any attempts to show me or NTR in bad light,” Parvathi said. 

Parvathi had entered NTR’s life in the early 1990s as his biographer and the two got married in 1993. She said no one had approached her for permission to make a film on NTR. “I will move the court if necessary,” she said.

When Balakrishna first announced his plans to make the biopic in February this year, Parvathi threatened to move court if Chandrababu Naidu was portrayed as hero in the movie. She alleged that Naidu had “backstabbed” his father-in-law NTR to grab power by engineering a revolt in the Telugu Desam Party in 1995.
