One cop killed, another injured in encounter with gangsters

A policeman was killed and another was injured when some gangsters began firing an AK-47 indiscriminately at a police team chasing them in Sukhwasi village in Rajasthan’s Nagaur district, a senior police officer said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred at midnight. The policeman who died has been identified as Khuma Ram. Another policeman, Harendra Choudhary, was admitted to a government hospital in Jodhpur, Nagaur superintendent of police Gaurav Shrivastava said by phone.
Special Operation Group (SOG) and ATS (Rajasthan Police wings) were chasing three gangsters — suspected to be sharp shooters — the officer said. All three ran into forest cover and some agricultural fields.
All three are believed to have been accomplices of a suspected sharp shooter, Shankar, who was arrested after an encounter on Monday for helping a suspected criminal Anandpal escape from judicial custody in Ajmer district in 2015. However, the accomplices and took a vehicle to Nagaur.
Police teams have also found at least six arms, live cartridges, clothes, some red chilies, and some dry fruits that they left in a car during encounter.
Police suspect one or two of the three gangsters belong to Haryana.
