The Ludhiana police today detained one more Bangladeshi in the gang rape case of a 72-year-old nun at a school at Ranaghat in Nadia district of West Bengal. The detention comes a day after four Bangladeshi suspects were rounded up for their alleged involvement in the gang-rape case and other criminal activities. A team of the West Bengal police is expected to arrive in the city to ascertain the involvement of the suspects in the case.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Mukhwinder Singh said the detainees were hardcore criminals who were involved in several robberies and wanted by the West Bengal police in many criminal cases. DCP Navin Singla said the gang of Bangladeshi nationals was involved in some crime cases in Ludhiana also. The police, however, refused to divulge any information related to the gang-rape case.

They added that the investigation was on and they were in touch with their counterparts in West Bengal.

The ADCP said they had taken the help of a Bengali student from Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) to interact with the suspects as the language had been a hurdle in the investigation. Two Bangladeshi nationals had been arrested in West Bengal and Mumbai too recently.
