Launching a frontal attack on the Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said its leaders were only concerned with their plush bungalows and promoting their relatives to amass properties.
Virtually launching the election campaign for the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Maghar, the ‘nirvan sthali” of the 15th-century Bhakti poet Sant Kabir, Modi interspersed his 35-minute speech with Kabir’s dohas highlighting his worldview of universal love and against caste and religious-based discrimination. The town located in Sant Kabir Nagar is 243 km from Lucknow.
PM Modi said Maghar had become a symbol of the values by which Kabir lived. “Living his entire life in Varanasi as a Ram bhakt, he came to Maghar to challenge the myth that if one dies in Varanasi one goes to heaven,” the Prime Minister said.
“Do those who speak of Samajwad and Bahujan live by values? On 43th anniversary of Emergency, we see that those who opposed it and those who imposed it are together to acquire power and promote their families and it fortunes. They speak of Dalits but want to live in bungalows of crores of rupees”, said Modi.
Categorically hitting out at the previous Samajwadi party government, Modi said after coming to power in 2014, his government had been continuously pursuing the UP government through letters and phone calls to provide a list of eligible beneficiaries for the Prime Minister Awas Yojana without any response.
After the coming of the Yogi government UP has become the top state under the PMAY, he pointed out, adding that the Samajwadi party national president was clearly more concerned about his own bungalow than houses for the poor.
Earlier, the Prime Minister paid floral tributes at Sant Kabir’s samadhi and offered a chadar at his adjacent mazaar. He also laid the foundation stone for an Rs 24 crore Kabir Academy and research centre.
