Police officer injured after gunfight at factory, 7 held

Seven armed persons, who allegedly attempted loot at a closed factory in Chobepur area here, were arrested after a gunfight broke out between them and cops in which one officer got injured, the police said today.

Seven armed persons were nabbed and four country-made pistols and live cartridges seized after a gun fight, while the perpetrators allegedly attempted loot at a closed pickle factory, here, late last night after taking two security guards hostage, SSP Kanpur Shalabh Mathur said.

One of the guards managed to inform police control room following which cops from nearby Chobepur police station reached the spot, he said.

As the police tried to enter into the factory, the force came under firing from miscreants hiding inside it. One of the personnel, Station Officer Neeraj Yadav got injured during the fight.

“Station Officer Neeraj Yadav was injured when a piece of glass hit his forehead,” Mathur said.

Meanwhile, Additional forces led by SP (Rural) Surendra Tiwari reached the spot and finally nabbed the culprits, he said.

The accused identified as - Vipin, Tannu and Sachin, are brothers and residents of Sachendi, and their accomplices Amit, Pradeep, Sunil and Kallu, are being interrogated, police said. — PTI
