Abidjan (Ivory Coast), June 14
President Pranab Mukherjee arrived on a two-day state visit to Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) this afternoon to further bilateral ties between India and the west African coastal state. On touchdown at the capital, Abidjan, he was received by the country’s President, Alassane Ouattara.
This is the second leg of his three-nation tour, which is part of the Indian Government endeavour to reach out to the African countries. Earlier, Vice President Hamid Ansari had visited Morocco and Tunisia, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi is schedule to embark on a tour to five African countries shortly.
Earlier, before departing Ghana in the morning, Mukherjee visited the India Ghana Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT in Accra and announced an additional grant of $1 million for the institute. The centre had been set up with Indian assistance of $2.86 million.
