Priyanka Chopra apologises for calling Sikkim ‘troubled'' state

Actor Priyanka Chopra has apologised to the Sikkim Government and its people after she was criticised on social media for referring to Sikkim as a state “troubled with insurgency”.
She had made the remark in an interview to ET Canada, at the ongoing Toronto International Film Festival, exposing her ignorance about the fact that picturesque Sikkim is an island of peace.

Sikkim Tourism minister Ugen Gyatso informed that he had received written and verbal apology from Priyanka’s production firm Purple Pebble Pictures on the actress’ behalf.
The minister further said that Priyanka’s mother Madhu Chopra also spoke to him over phone and had apologised for the comment.
Priyanka referred to Sikkim as “troubled” when she was speaking in connection with her new Sikkimese production — Pahuna — which premiered at the prestigious film fest last week.
Pahuna, directed by Pakhi Tyrewala, is about two Nepalese children who are displaced because of conflict.
It may be mentioned that the tiny state is the most peaceful state in the entire northeast.
The Himalayan state is a popular tourist destination in the country. The organic state of the country is known for its friendly and hardworking people who have made their state a haven for tourists fond of natural beauty.
