Rahul Gandhi’s resignation causing anxiety to cadres: Telangana leader

Hyderabad, July 14
A senior Telangana Congress leader has appealed to the Congress high command to resolve the issue of Rahul Gandhi’s resignation on priority basis as this was leading to demoralisation among the party cadres.
Former MLA Marri Shashidhar Reddy said unless the process of electing a new president for the Congress was speeded up, other parties were gradually poaching on the cadres of the nation’s oldest party.
He said this was essential to boost the confidence of the party’s rank and file by appointing an interim president.
Talking to media persons here today, he said their urgency was on account of the feedback from the grassroots where the cadres were growing restless and many may shift to other political parties.
This leadership vacuum if allowed to continue would harm the party very badly, he said.
Son of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Marri Channa Reddy, Marri Shashidhar also rubbished rumours about his joining the BJP saying he was a born Gandhian and would never change his ideology for political gains.
Saying that the Congress may be down but not out in Telangana and elsewhere in the country, he said appointment of an interim president could curb the anxiety among the party workers, as a headless party will suffer an irreparable damage.
Rahul Gandhi’s decision to quit as president has stunned all but the party must follow the available provision of declaring the senior-most general secretary as interim president, Shashidhar Reddy said.
