Amethi, August 8

Posters that have appeared at several places in Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s Lok Sabha constituency Amethi have declared him "missing", a development that to which the party has reacted angrily.

Posters that have been pasted at several places in the city have a picture of Gandhi with the caption: “Amethi ke man-niya saansad amethi se lapata hain (Honourable Amethi parliamentarian is missing from Amethi)".

The message then goes on to say that his absence has resulted in several development projects being stalled in Amethi.

"The common man is feeling cheated and humiliated due to his behaviour. Those giving information about him will be rewarded," the message said.

District Congress chief Yogendra Mishra has blamed a “BJP and RSS conspiracy” and claimed that such things had happened in the past.

"We will register an FIR in this connection with the local police," Mishra said.

BJP district president Uma Shankar Pandey has denied the allegations.

"Had he (Gandhi) done something for Amethi, the situation would not have arisen," he said.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) BC Dubey said police have not received complaint yet. "If we get a complaint, we will probe and take necessary action," he said.

Gandhi had last visited his constituency in this past February in run up to the state assembly election. He met people of his constituency in Lucknow while he was there to submit a memorandum to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) regarding land acquisition of farmers for roads last week.
