Rajasthan govt extends 1% quota to ''most backward class'' in judicial services

After approving amendments in the existing Rajasthan Judicial Services Act, 2010, the Congress government has extended 1 per cent quota benefit to Most Backward Class (MBC) in the state judicial services besides giving the minimum and maximum age relaxations to General Class category applicants. 

The Ashok Gehlot cabinet which met on Saturday has approved proposal to make amendments in Sections 12 and 17 of the Rajasthan Judicial Services Act, 2010, by which the minimum age relaxation for General category students/applicants is reduced from 23 to 21 years, and the maximum age limit raised from 35 to 40 years, a state official said here on Sunday. 

Similarly, the maximum age relaxation of 10 years to differently-abled (Divyang) persons, 13 years to differently-abled OBC and 15 years to differently-abled SC/ST has also been approved by the cabinet. 

A 1 per cent quota benefit to Most Backward Class is likely to be shared by five castes and six sub-castes of Gurjars, Rebari, Banjara, Raika and Gadariya-Lohar. 

However, the reservation benefit of either 1 per cent or 5 per cent to MBC was still wraped in controversy and legal wranglings as the previous governments of BJP and Congress (in last two terms) have not resolved it clearly despite adopting new reservation bills (amendments) in the state legislative assembly. 

The Gurjars Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti led by Col Kirori Singh Bhainsla has been still up in the arms over its pending demands.
