The Rajasthan Drug Controller today directed withdrawal of all existing stocks of Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo from the market, saying these were not of standard quality and contained harmful ingredients.

In an order released by the Central Drug Standards Control Organisation (CDSCO), the drug controller said the stocks of J&J baby shampoos sampled from its Baddi plant in Solan were not of the quality required under the Drugs and Cosmetics Law and that the company will be proceeded against as per the rules.

“Ensure that these stocks are not consumed anymore and appropriate safeguards to consumers are provided by withdrawing the available stock and acting under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act Rules 1940,” the order said.

It refers to J&J baby shampoo stocks that are to expire in September 2021 and are currently in the market.

J&J, in a statement, said its products were safe. “J&J is in full compliance with Indian regulatory requirements and standards,” said a spokesperson.
