On the run for almost four years, IAS officer BB Mohanty, who is facing a rape charge by a 23-year-old woman, finally surrendered today. He was produced before a local court on Tuesday which sent him to two-day police custody.
Mohanty, who had been absconding since January 2014 after an MBA student filed a case of rape with the Mahesh Nagar police station, had surrendered at the Sodala police station, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Yogesh Dadheech said.
In her FIR on January 25, 2014, the woman had alleged that the IAS officer posted as Secretary in the Civil Services Appellate Tribunal had raped her repeatedly after promising to help her clear civil services examination. Mohanty was booked under Sections 376 and 377 of the IPC with the Mahesh Nagar police station.
The Rajasthan Government had suspended Mohanty and he retired in absentia on June 30, 2015, a Department of Personnel official said.
The victim had met Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and demanded a CBI probe into the case as the police were unable to arrest the accused.
