Row in Gujarat over ‘Saraswati pujan’ in schools

Ahmedabad, January 23

A circular issued by the school board of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation asking schools run by the corporation to observe “Saraswati Vandana” on Basant Panchami tomorrow has kicked up a storm.

Parents and teachers of Urdu schools under the board have refused to carry out the instructions accusing the BJP-controlled city civic body and the school board of “saffronisation” of the education.

“We do not want to interfere with other religions and do not want interference into our religion,” the parents said. — TNS
