New Delhi: Having taken suo motu cognisance of the “alarming rise” in cases of rape against children, the Supreme Court on Monday asked amicus curiae senior advocate V Giri to collect data relating to child rape cases from various states and place before it. A Bench headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi asked the amicus curiae to assist it in the case and to work with the court's registrar, SS Rathi. It asked the duo to get details of child rape cases and evolve a mechanism to ensure faster disposal of such cases. TNS

‘Postcard attack’ on MC chief in Thane  

Thane: Angry citizens of Thane on Monday posted over 1,000 postcards to Thane Municipal Commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal demanding his urgent intervention to resolve the menace of hawkers. Justice Sikri appointed Singapore court judge   

New Delhi: Former Supreme Court judge Justice AK Sikri has been appointed as an international judge of the Singapore International Commercial Court (SICC), a press release said. His term will expire on January 4, 2021. The SICC is a division of the Singapore High Court and part of the Supreme Court of that country, designed to deal with transnational commercial disputes. Centre’s no to TN for NEET exemption  

New Delhi: The Centre has turned down requests from Puducherry and Tamil Nadu governments to exempt students from appearing in National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for undergraduate and postgraduate medical admissions, according to the HRD Ministry. The information was shared by Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' in response to a written question in the Lok Sabha. PTI
