New Delhi, February 27
Another Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student facing sedition charges was questioned by the Delhi Police on Saturday in connection with a recent event held on the university campus.
Ashutosh Kumar is among the five students against whom police issued a look out notice.
The others accused in the case are Umar Khalid, Anirban Bhattacharya — both of who have already turned themselves in — Rama Naga and Anant Prakash. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Students’ Union President Kanhaiya Kumar has been in custody since February 12.
Congress has said that Kanhaiya Kumar’s case should be transferred to a “non-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ruled state” — either Uttar Pradesh or Bihar — to ensure fair investigations.
Police interrogated Kumar, Khalid and Bhattacharya together for the first time on Friday.
Police have identified some 22 people who are suspected to have actively participated in the recent event on the campus.
The students — including Kahnaiya Kumar — have been accused of having been involved in an event where anti-national slogans were raised. The event was held on university campus on February 9 to protest Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru’s execution on his third death anniversary. — Agencies
