New Delhi, September 5
A local court sent sacked a Delhi Minister facing rape charges to three days in police custody.
Former Minister of Social Welfare and Women and Child Development under Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi, Sandeep Kumar, 36, was arrested on September 3 after a woman recently seen in a sex CD him accused him of rape.
Kumar, who was dismissed from his position after the video led to a row, has been booked for rape and under a section of the Prevention of Corruption Act, among other charges.
Delhi Police also detained Kumar’s personal assistant after the AAP leader accused him of "blackmailing" him and "threatening to destroy his public image".
The PA, Praveen Kumar, was detained from Delhi Secretariat this morning, police said.
"As of now, we have detained him for questioning from Delhi Secretariat," said DCP (Outer) Vikramjeet Singh.
The woman claimed Kumar raped her 11 months ago when she went to his office in Outer Delhi's Sultanpuri asking for his help to get herself a ration card.
She claimed Kumar offered her a drink spiked with drugs that made her faint and took her to his house next to the office to rape her. The woman also claimed Kumar had promised to ensure she got her ration card and her children got jobs.
The minister was dismissed from his office on August 31 after a CD of showing him and a woman in what has been termed as “compromising position” surfaced.
The Sultanpur Majra MLA first defended himself claiming he was being targeted. His wife also claimed Kumar was “implicated" in the scandal. — PTI
