Shia board fine with Lord Rama’s statue

Lucknow: Shia Central Board of Waqf Uttar Pradesh Chairperson Syed Waseem Rizvi has extended support to the UP government’s proposed 100-m Lord Rama’s statue in Ayodhya. “Why should the installation of the statue be opposed? When BSP president Mayawati installed dozen of statues of herself all over the place, what is wrong with the installation of a statue of universally revered Rama?” Rizvi said. However, the Babri Masjid Action Committee convener Zafaryab Jilani said building a statue with tax-payers’ money was illegal under the Indian Constitution. TNS
