Sonia should fulfil Rajiv’s wish for Ram temple: VHP

New Delhi, January 8
Amid renewed attempts to reinstate focus on the construction of a “grand Ram temple at Ayodhya”, RSS-affiliate VHP has urged Congress president Sonia Gandhi to “honour” the “wish” of her late husband Rajiv Gandhi.
VHP joint general secretary Surendra Kumar Jain, who today outlined the organisation’s plans to renew its long-held “sankalp” to build the temple, also sought to remind Sonia and her son Rahul Gandhi about “dreams and wishes” of former Congress PM Rajiv Gandhi.
Jain said: “The VHP doesn’t think that the Congress is nakara (useless) in this endeavour. After all, Rajiv in 1989 allowed the shilanyas ceremony and later also made a declaration about building the temple at an election rally in UP. She (Sonia) says she will fulfil her late husband’s dream. So we want to tell her that building of the Ram temple at Ayodhya was one of his dreams.”
He said: “PM Narendra Modi will only be able to come back to power if he delivers on the BJP’s core issue — building of the Ram Temple.”
