RANCHI, SEPTEMBER 30
Five persons on Sunday died and a few others, including a woman, were critical after allegedly consuming spurious liquor at Hatma Basti locality of Ranchi district of Jharkhand.
Some residents of Hatma Basti are said to have allegedly consumed countrymade liquor at Jhanda Chowk locality on Saturday night. They, however, complained of vomiting blood, nausea, and stomach pain and five of them died before they could be taken to hospital.
Some others including a woman, who seriously fell ill after consuming spurious liquor, were being treated at a local hospital. The police took the bodies in their possession from burial gound and sent for postmortem.
Confirming five deaths in Hatma Basti, Ranchi deputy commissioner Rai Mahimapat Ray said: “The reason of their deaths is yet to be ascertained as it could be confirmed by postmortem reports. They are said to have allegedly consumed spurious liquor”.
Police said the probe was on to ascertain the reason behind the deaths. — TNS
