New Delhi, October 1
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in a televised address has appealed to people to extend their help in finding the parents of deaf and mute girl, Geeta, who returned to India from Pakistan two years ago.
Swaraj said whoever helps find Geeta’s parents will be rewarded with Rs 1 lakh.
She also requested cable operators, especially in Bihar and Jharkhand, to telecast the appeal in which the minister is standing with the girl.
The minister said how Geeta crossed over to Pakistan some 10-12 years ago remains a mystery but was brought up by social organisation Edhi Foundation in that country.
The girl was brought back home after she identified the people in a photograph as her parents and siblings but denied that they were her biological parents at the airport on arrival.
Since then the girl is residing at an Indore-based institute for the deaf and mute.
