Tamil film ‘Visaranai’ for Oscars

National award-winning Tamil film “Visaranai” is India’s official entry in the Foreign Language Film category at the Oscars next year.

It was selected out of 29 films in the race, Film Federation of India secretary general Supran Sen said.

The crime-thriller, produced by actor-filmmaker Dhanush, is based on the novel “Lock Up” by M Chandrakumar.

Featuring Dinesh Ravi, Anandhi and Aadukalam Murugadoss in the lead roles, the film deals with police brutality, corruption, and loss of innocence in the face of injustice. — PTI

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
