New Delhi, January 29

The Supreme Court today dismissed a lawyer’s petition seeking deletion of certain scenes of Deepika Padukone-starrer “Padmaavat”.

Advocate ML Sharma — whose two petitions against “Padmawat” had been already dismissed by the top court — questioned the decision of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to grant certificate to the film.

A Bench headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra dismissed Sharma’s third petition, saying the film had already been cleared by the CBFC.

Sharma referred to the court’s November 20 order in one of his earlier petitions directing expunction of certain details about the movie from his petition for apprehension of creating “disharmony”.

The Bench said, “The film has now been cleared by the CBFC with suggested changes. We cannot prevent it from screening… a point has come for you (Sharma) to leave this cause. What we meant by expunction was that those paragraphs should not be used by petitioners.” — TNS
