Lucknow, May 7
Despite CM Yogi Adityanath’s claims of improved law and order situation under the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh, a woman was allegedly gang-raped in front of her husband alongside the Jaluan Highway three days ago.
On the intervening night of May 4-5, a couple returning from Jaipur got off the bus at Auraiyya to board another bus to Badi Surawali village in Jalaun district of Bundelkhand. They took lift in a pickup van, which already had three occupants, from the bus stop on the Jalaun-Auraiyya highway late in the night.
According to the FIR lodged at the Jalaun police station, the driver drove them to a deserted place alongside a village road where some occupants pinned down the woman’s husband, while others took turns to sexually assault her in the fields around 12.30 pm. The culprits also took away their bag containing Rs 20,000 in cash among other belongings.
Jalaun SP Swapnil Mamgain said a case of gang rape and dacoity had been registered and five police teams set up to arrest the culprits. “The woman’s mangalsutra and a mobile phone were recovered from the crime spot. We have rounded up 10 persons,” the SP said.
