Chennai, April 9
Former union minister GK Vasan’s Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) will contest the assembly elections scheduled May 16 with Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam and People’s Welfare Front, the party announced on Saturday.
Twenty seats of 124 seats previously allocated to actor-politician Vijaykanth’s DMDK will be distributed between the TMC and the PWF, which has Vaiko’s Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Communist Party of India.
According to the revised seat-sharing understanding announced on Saturday, DMDK, whose Vijaykanth — popularly called ‘Captain’ is chief ministerial candidate — now has 104 seats and MDMK has 29.
Vasan’s party had previously been trying to forge an alliance with the ruling AIADMK.
