Los Angeles, December 18
“Village Rockstars”, India’s official entry at the 91st Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Film category, is no longer a part of the race, with only nine films out of 87 making it to the next round of voting.
Directed by Rima Das, the Assamese film revolves around a group of village children aspiring to become rockstars. Das said the Oscar dream may have ended, but she will forever be grateful for the film’s “incredible journey”.
The director, who shot the film in a village with local children, said “Village Rockstars” took her and her band of “rockstars” to places that were beyond her wildest dreams. India has so far drawn a blank in the Best Foreign Film category. The last Indian film that made it to the final five in the list was Ashutosh Gowariker’s “Lagaan” in 2001. — PTI
