Four persons have been arrested by the Allahabad police for setting ablaze the Holland Hall hostel room where the present wining Allahabad University Students Union (AUSU) president from Samajwadi Chatra Sabha (SCS) and the outgoing president, also from the SCS, reside.
The FIR was lodged by AUSU president Uday Prakash Yadav against 20 students and more than 10 unnamed students reportedly owning allegiance to the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) who allegedly went berserk after electoral reverses in the election the result of which came past midnight.
While ex-AUSU president Richa Singh said a dozen hostel rooms had been completely gutted by the miscreants who hurled crude bombs, Colonelganj police station Circle Officer Alok Mishra claimed the criminals targeted only one room of the newly elected president and had also damaged books and other belongings of the outgoing president Avnish Yadav. Denying the attackers had any allegiance to any political outfit, Mishra said they were criminals.
