New Delhi, June 14
The results of JEE (Advanced), 2019, were announced by Indian Institute of Technology-Roorkee today, with Kartikey Chandresh Gupta of Maharashtra emerging the topper.
Of the total 1,61,319 candidates who appeared in both paper one and two of the exam, 38,705 have cleared the exam. Of the successful candidates, 5,356 are females.
With 346 out of 372 marks (121 in mathematics, 113 in physics and 112 in chemistry), Kartikey of Ballarpur in Maharashtra stood first in the Common Rank List (CRL). Allahabad’s Himanshu Gaurav Singh secured the second rank, while Delhi’s Archit Bubna stood third.
Shabnam Sahay of Ahmedabad is the topper among female candidates with CRL 10. She scored 308 marks.
For Kartikey, hard work, staying off social media, using a basic phone and playing badminton to de-stress spelt success. “When I was leaving for Mumbai two years ago, my parents had given me a smartphone but I told them I do not need it. I was away from social media for two years,” he said.
He has his sight set on IIT-Bombay and wants to pursue computer science.
For 17-year-old Bubna, preparation began before he entered Class 11. He secured 335 marks — 116, 112 and 107 in physics, chemistry and mathematics, respectively. “JEE (Advanced) question papers require more thinking as compared to JEE (Mains). I had joined coaching and studied everyday for three to four hours. I gave equal importance to all subjects,” he said, adding that he wants to get into IIT-Bombay or IIT-Delhi and pursue computer science.
Out of the qualified candidates, 15,566 are from the General Category, 3,636 from the Economically Weaker Section, 7,651 OBCs, 8,758 SCs and 3,094 STs.
While JEE-Mains is conducted for admission to engineering colleges across the country, JEE-Advanced is for the ones seeking admission to IITs. JEE-Mains has to be cleared to be eligible to appear for JEE-Advanced. — PTI
