Jammu, June 5
With the death of 24-year-old Jagjeet Singh, the family of Chwala village of border Tehsil R S Pura in Jammu district has lost the sole bread earner. Virtually the whole area was in a state of mourning in the wake of the death and residents are aghast over the incident.
Jagjeet was the only hope of his family. The responsibility of marrying off his younger sister was on Jagjeet’s shoulders and he was working hard to meet the expectations of the family.
Working in a cellular company in Jammu, he was planning to shift to Australia for a better job.
“Jagjeet was all set to leave for Australia on 14th of this month and all the formalities, including visa, had been completed. He was an ambitious person and wanted to achieve much more,” said a Sikh boy, who was waiting for Jagjeet’s body outside Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu mortuary.
“His family has been hit by a huge disaster which has shattered them,” he added. He is survived by parents, grandfather and a sister. Jagjeet’s mentally challenged brother went missing from his home almost a year back. The family ran from pillar to post to trace him, but in vain.
“The family was still trying to cope up with this shock when it was hit by this one. This has shattered the family completely,” said a friend of Jagjeet, who didn’t disclose his name.
The post-mortem examination, conducted at GMC Jammu, confirmed that Jagjeet was hit by a bullet on right side of his head which caused his death.
After the post-mortem examination, Jagjeet’s body was taken to Gadigarh area where he was shot dead by police. His last rites will be performed at Chwala on Saturday.
